Memorial seventh grader Ilan Cifuentes was recently recognized for his superb writing skills with an impressive 2nd Place finish for District 7 in the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Auxiliary Patriot's Pen Scholarship Competition. Local VFW representatives including President Sandra Uzell, Scholarship Chair Nancy Nicholl, and Judge John Nicholl visited Memorial to formally recognize Ilan with a gift bag and certificate, as well as a check and gift card, both in the amount of fifty dollars. In addition to these awards and accolades, Ilan received a check in the amount of one-hundred dollars in November 2023 from VFW Post 7536 for his award-winning essay. Mrs. Prichette, Ilan's English Language Arts teacher was also present at the award ceremony to celebrate his accomplishments.
