21st Century Skills and College - It’s Elementary

SE-L administrators shared the success of the Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) program at Greenview Upper Elementary: the first elementary school in Ohio to offer this premiere program. Our presentation showed how schools can begin preparing elementary students for college by embedding college readiness skills in the elementary environment. The result: increased Advanced Placement enrollment and more first-generation, college-bound students.

First Ring Superintendents’ Collaborative

As one of the founding members of the First Ring Superintendents’ Collaborative, District leaders shared how Cleveland’s 15 inner ring districts are strategically working together and sharing best practices to address issues related to student achievement, mobility, diversity and poverty. This collaborative has shown how regionalization, partnerships, resources and sharing data have strengthened academic services to 50,000-plus students.

Tiny Techies from Adrian Elementary

Three Adrian Elementary School students demonstrated their technological prowess by showing how they use Microsoft Office to accomplish various class assignments. There are few things so humbling as watching these young people deftly and confidently develop graphs, pictures and navigate their way through the creation of PowerPoint presentations.

Charles F. Brush High School AVTV VIDEO BROADCAST Program

For the second year, one school district team was chosen to document the Capital Conference. We were extremely honored to feature the talents of Brush’s AVTV students. Led by Program Director, Michael Bubnow, the students shot footage of various parts of the conference, such as the tradeshow and the keynote speakers. They also conducted interviews with key OSBA officials, speakers Gov. Ted Strickland, State Superintendent Deb Delisle and ice skater Dorothy Hammil.
