Students and staff at Brush High School will have an additional layer of safety and protection in case of a heart-related emergency thanks to the generous donation of an AED (Automated External Defibrillator) device by the 4Alec Foundation. Founded by Scott and Stephanie Kornet, the 4Alec Foundation is dedicated to increasing awareness and prevention of Sudden Cardiac Arrest and is named after their son and former Brush student, Alec Kornet, who passed away due to an undiagnosed heart condition in February 2017. The AED was formally presented by the Kornet family to Superintendent Linda N. Reid and Brush Principal Karl Williamson on Wednesday, April 4, 2018, and is now located just outside the entrance to the Arc Fit Complex. A special plaque honoring the memory of Alec Kornet will be displayed on the wall next to the AED device. The ceremony was spotlighted by Fox-8 Cleveland and is now available for viewing online.
The 4Alec Foundation obtained the AED through a national video contest sponsored by GotAED during Heart Health Month in February 2018. Stephanie’s video sharing the story of her son, Alec, received over 17,000 views and was selected as the winning entry. The South Euclid Lyndhurst School District would like to thank the 4Alec Foundation for their generous gift which will make a life-saving AED device available for our students and staff.
