On Wednesday, April 11th, fourteen Brush High School students participated in Brush’s First Annual Poetry Slam. These students attended Creative Writing Workshops during their Academic Lab period, and were instructed by Kisha Nicole Foster and Stephanie Ginese, members of Twelve Literary Arts, an organization that teaches performance poetry. The student’s poetry was written using the theme “social injustice” and how this affected them on a personal level. All 14 students braved the stage and the spotlight, sharing their thoughts and emotions. They entered this slam knowing it was a competition, and they all brought their A-game. 

The students that placed are as follows:
4th place: Davion Crawford
3rd place: Raychelle Malone
2nd place: Autumn McDonald
1st place: Kayla Feagin

These finalists were awarded prizes and have been given the opportunity to move forward and participate in a Poetry Slam on June 1, 2018 at The Happy Dog @ Euclid Tavern.
