STEP UP students in grades 5, 6, 7, and 8 from Greenview and Memorial, along with teachers Bob Bell, Gina Arnold, and Marcia Armbruster, attended a Philosophy Kick-Off Day at John Carroll University this past Thursday as part of the STEP UP program’s philosophy collaboration with the university. Dr. Sharon Kaye heads the JCU philosophy program, which is beginning year two with SEL’s gifted students. This program is funded by a grant that former NFL coach and John Carroll alumnus Don Shula left to the philosophy department at John Carroll in order to promote and support humanities for children. Dr. Kaye and several JCU philosophy interns will work with these STEP UP classes at Greenview and Memorial over the course of the year.
