Memorial Students Recognized at NJHS Induction Ceremony

On Friday, May 12th, Memorial Junior High recognized the achievements of fifty-one students at its National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) Induction Ceremony in the new gym.  Twenty students were welcomed as 2017 inductees of NJHS, while thirty-one students were recognized as one-year members in in the prestigious student organization.  In his opening remarks, Principal Dominick Kaple praised the students for being a cornerstone of their school and community. Guest speaker Lyndhurst Mayor Patrick Ward emphasized the importance of character and leadership, two of the five pillars of the National Junior Honor Society.  The ceremony also featured remarks by the Memorial NJHS officers, including President Gianni Fitch, Vice-President Andrew Schlegel, and Secretary Mekieria Williford.  After their individual remarks, each officer took part in the Traditional Candle Lighting Ceremony.

To become a member of NJHS, students must maintain a high-grade point average, as well as commit to completing twenty-hours of community service.  During the 2016-2017 school year, members volunteered at the Ronald McDonald House and completed a fundraiser for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.  Memorial Junior High is extremely proud of all NJHS members for being a shining example in their school and community!
