Spring Briefing 4/25

Thank you to the Faculty and Staff who supported the Athletic Boosters Lottery Fundraiser. They were able to raise a substantial amount of money that will be used to support our student-athletes!

Congrats to Athletic Director Mike Murphy who was awarded the OIAAA Sportsmanship, Integrity, and Ethics Award at the recent NEOIAAA Spring Conference.

Boys Track and Field

On Saturday at the Ranger Relays, the Arcs captured the 4x100 relay with a time of 45.66. Senior Kendale Davis took fourth in 200 with a time of 23.51. On Monday at Beachwood, Lloyd McFarquhar finished sixth in the 200 and won the 300 Hurdles. The Arcs also had relay success with a fourth in the 4x200 and third in 4x400, they also got 26 points from the throwing team of DJ Gullate, Kyle Bunnaman and Kareem King. Junior Quentin Woodall currently has the second fastest 100 Hurdle time in the area with a 15.04, they also have top eight relays times locally in the 4x100, 4x200 and 4x400, along with top long jumpers, Donovan Johnson (20-7) and Andre Franks (20-5 ½). The track teams will be home the next two Wednesdays before the WRC Championships at SPIRE on May 11th.

Girls Track and Field

In early April, junior Jasmyn Allen broke Asya Reynolds 100 Hurdles with a time of 14.80 at the Nordonia Knight Relays. She would then go on to win the 100 Hurdles at the Ranger Relays last weekend with a time of 15.02. She also took third in the 200 with a 26.67 at North and second in the 300 Hurdles with a time of 49.53. Allen kept up her 100 Hurdles success at the Beachwood Invitational winning in a time of 15.23. Raven Drake took second in the 300 Hurdles Monday with a time of 50.28. Junior Zharia Tyler finished fourth (shot put) and fifth (discus) at Beachwood.

Baseball

Baseball now stands at 3-11 on the season while treading through the tough Western Reserve Conference. The Arcs stepped out of conference play on Saturday to play at the historic League Park against Cleveland Heights, the Arcs dropped both games but got a solid pitching from senior Ben Feder, he went six innings and only gave up three earned runs. The Arcs have been led by junior Travis Thompson who has pitched 26.1 innings giving up only five earned runs (1.32 ERA) and 27 strikeouts.

Softball

The Softball team split a series on Saturday against Westlake, winning the first game on a walk-off double by freshman Makenna Bishko. They followed up the win on Saturday with a 5-1 win over Kenston on Monday night to improve to 5-8 on the season. Six of their eight losses have come to teams ranked in the most recent News-Herald Top of the Crop. Four of the eight teams in the WRC were ranked in that recent ranking as well. Softball has upcoming home games Tuesday (Kenston) and Thursday (Eastlake North). Going into the weekend the Arcs were being led by freshman Makenna Bishko and junior Taylor Brizee, who were both hitting over .400 on the season. Girls Basketball

Football

Last week Christian Wright, Tyrone Chambers and James Kalan were selected for the News-Herald all-star game. They will play on June 16 at Mentor’s Jerome T. Osborne Stadium.

Football was also recently awarded the $1,000 from the Cleveland Browns after being selected as a 2016 HELMETS weekly sweepstakes winner based on the program’s commitment to advancing player safety by enrolling in USA Football Heads Up Football program.
