Brush Basketball Players Participate in Financial Literacy Program

As part of the Charles F. Brush High School Basketball team’s commitment to improving not only the athletic talent of the players on the court, but also to developing  future-ready skills for participating student-athletes, Coach Chet Mason has developed a Financial Literacy Program. Built on the belief held by Coach Mason that sound financial literacy is a valuable skill that he learned during his 11 seasons as a professional athlete, he has invited 9th through 12th graders involved with the basketball program once a week to listen to lessons taught by Mrs. Sharon Murphy Williams, Director of the Phebe Foundation and a financial expert. Over the course of the next four weeks, Mrs. Murphy Williams will introduce topics such as creating a personal budget, the importance of credit, investments and making proper financial decisions. Coach Mason first met Mrs. Murphy Williams as a senior at his alma mater, South High School, back in the year 2000, and since then, he has remained actively engaged with her. He could think of no better person to whom he could expose his players for relevant financial advice and lessons than Mrs. Murphy Williams. Thank you, Coach Mason, for truly mentoring your young student-athletes will skills that will undoubtedly make them all future-ready!
