African-American Storytellers Week

story

Sunview Elementary celebrated African-American Storytellers week on Monday, September 24, 2018, with a special presentation of African-American songs and folktales by a group of female performers.  The presentation held special significance for third-grader Aliyah Wheeler, as her great-aunt, Darlene Bostick, helped to coordinate the informative and enriching performance of stories with powerful messages.  Inspired by her great-aunt’s participation in celebrating the rich tradition of African-American storytelling, Aliyah performed her own storytelling rendition of “I Am America” at the Warrensville Public Library on Saturday, September 22nd.  The SEL Schools recognize Aliyah Wheeler for pursuing her passion to participate in the celebration of African-American Storytellers week.
