Black History Living Legends Chess Tournament

Fifteen African American women were honored as part of the second annual Black History Living Legends High School Chess Tournament  that took place at Charles F. Brush High School last week. Before the chess playing began, notable local African American women were recognized, including Dr. Myrna Loy Corley, Diane Gary Bloodsaw, Marsha A. Mockabee, and Gail R. Reese. After the ceremony, students from Cleveland Heights-University Heights, Shaw, Glenville, Ginn Academy, John Hay, Warrensville Heights and Solon High School competed in various chess matches. This Chess Tournament and the recognition of these distinguished African American women from Northeast Ohio was intended to celebrate Black History Month in a meaningful way. Special thank you to Sara Ballou and her Brush High School vocalists who performed the Black National Anthem before the festivities began.
