Mayor Georgine Welo Discusses Leadership with Memorial Junior High Student Leaders

The Honorable Georgine Welo, Mayor of South Euclid, visited Memorial Junior High School earlier this week to meet with student leaders and to discuss the important role of leadership in our community today. Addressing a student audience of approximately seventy participants, Mayor Welo discussed her own personal background and some of the issues that motivated her to get into public service. She then took questions from the students for a portion of her time at Memorial.

Students in attendance for the Mayor’s presentation included representatives from MAC Scholars, under the direction of Mrs. Hamilton-Beeler, who organized the day’s festivities, as well as National Junior Honor Society and Student Council. The ceremony itself was kicked off with remarks from Mrs. Hamilton-Beeler, who turned the program over to student representatives from each of the groups in attendance, to provide an overview of their respective organization’s activities. Other students in attendance included those determined to be leaders by their teachers.

In all, the visit by Mayor Welo provided a genuine opportunity for one proven leader in our community to share her experiences with student leaders in hopes of matriculating them into leadership positions tomorrow.
