Sunview Students Awarded for Math-A-Thon Achievements

Eighty-one students at Sunview Elementary were honored at an awards assembly for their contributions in helping to raise approximately $4,000, as part of the annual Math-A-Thon. The competition is dedicated to raising awareness and funds for Saint Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, and involves students performing up to 200 math problems in exchange for donations from sponsors. This year’s competition held special significance for the staff and students at Sunview Elementary, as the school honored former student Devante Burns, who recently passed away after being a patient at St. Jude’s Hospital. First-grade teacher Mrs. Kathy Groudle handed out awards to students at the assembly, which varied based on the amount of money raised by each individual student. A certificate of participation was awarded to students who raised $35 and under, while a certificate and t-shirt was given to those students who raised $35 to $74.99 in donations. Students who raised donations amounting to $75 received both aforementioned items along with a book bag. Six students raised more than $125 and were awarded the grand prize, which included all of the items mentioned along with the choice of a flexible light, silly man clock or a wooden game set. Congratulations to all participating students for their hard work and dedication in supporting the research and mission of St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital!
