Adrian Second Grader’s Mother and Author Reads Book to Class

Adrian Elementary School second grade student Ella Daugherty invited her mother, Susan, into class on Tuesday, November 26, 2013, to read to her classmates during a fun event just prior to departing for Thanksgiving Break. The visit was unique in the sense that the book Susan Petrone read to the second grade class of Mrs. Baca was one that she co-authored, entitled The SockKids Meet Lincoln.

As the co-creator of the SockKids children’s series, Mrs. Petrone was delighted to read her story to the class, but required that they each remove their shoes first to listen to the story in their socks. The story told the tale of the SockKids, who traveled through time in the spin cycle of a washing machine, and wound up on the foot of President Abraham Lincoln as he delivered his Gettysburg Address. After the story was read, Mrs. Petrone entertained questions from the second graders, and even revealed that upcoming encounters that the SockKids will experience include meetings with Ben Franklin and Albert Einstein.

Special thanks to Mrs. Spackey for helping to arrange the reading, and thank you Mrs. Petrone, for sharing your special story with our students.
