Rowland Elementary Hosts PTA Family Reading Experience

Students from Rowland Elementary and their families had the special opportunity to participate in a PTA Family Reading Experience on Thursday, March 13th, from 6 PM to 7:30 PM in the Rowland gym and library. The free event was attended by over fifteen students with families, and featured six different activities which promoted important reading skills such as fluency, comprehension, phonics and vocabulary. In addition, eight National Elementary Honors Society students from Greenview Upper Elementary volunteered their time to help younger students complete each activity. All library activities featured ten Amazon Kindle Readers which were given to Rowland through a generous grant obtained by the Rowland PTA. Students and their families also had the opportunity to enjoy pizza and other refreshments.

The PTA Family Reading Experience is a national program created in partnership with Amazon Kindle, and designed to provide parents and other family members, effective strategies to promote their child’s reading comprehension and motivation.

A big THANK-YOU to the Rowland PTA for helping to make this innovative and meaningful program possible!
