Students across the District participated in the annually hosted Fathers Walk sponsored by The Cuyahoga County Fatherhood Initiative on Thursday, September 19th.  As part of the yearly program, fathers, grandfathers, brothers, uncles and other father figures are encouraged to walk to school with their children to demonstrate the important role that they play in their students’ lives.  Activities took place at Sunview, Adrian, Memorial, Rowland and Greenview and in some places, included donuts and other light refreshments. Students and fathers listened to guest speakers, including Al Grimes from the Cuyahoga County Fatherhood Initiative and JC Commander spoke to students and fathers at Rowland’s event while Greenview’s celebration took place at Garfield Church on Green Road in South Euclid.  At Sunview Elementary, Principal Taylor recognized two parents, Ben Frayser and Aaron Holt, for their respective involvement in the school and community.  Mr. Frayser attended the event in portrayal of former President James A. Garfield, a role he regularly conducts as a living historian due to his extensive study of and personal inspiration received from the life of the nation’s 20th President.  Mr. Holt serves as the Pastor of the More Than Conquerors Outreach Center and is involved in the community as a volunteer and mentor.

The countywide sponsored program closed with all participants standing and reciting the Fathers Walk Pledge, expressing their commitment to support their child’s learning and communicate the importance of doing their best in school.  Each father and father-figure in attendance then walked with their child to their classroom or the main entrance of the school building.  Thank you to the fathers and father-figures who participated in this year’s Fathers Walk.
