Brush Art Students Fight Hunger with Empty Bowls Event

Advanced Ceramic Arts students at Brush High School recently used their creative talents to fight against hunger in the local community as part of the Empty Bowls Event.  This marks the third year that Brush has participated in the event which is dedicated to raising both money and awareness in the fight to end hunger.  In addition to Brush, six other Western Reserve Conference Schools participated, including Eastlake North, Willoughby South, Riverside, Kenston, Chardon and West Geauga.  Brush students hand-crafted and donated thirty ceramic bowls to the Empty Bowls Event, which took place on Friday, April 20, 2018, from 5-7 PM at the Eastlake North High School Café.   Guests enjoyed a simple dinner of bread and soup donated by sixteen local restaurants and chefs.  In exchange for a cash donation, guests were asked to keep a student-made bowl as a symbolic reminder of the “empty bowls” of individuals who experience hunger around the world.  One-hundred percent of the proceeds will be donated to local area foodbanks, and Brush High School will use its portion to support a food pantry at a local community church.  Thank-you to all participating students for supporting the Empty Bowls Event and the fight against hunger in the local community and beyond!
