Brush Alum Tabbed to Lead Swimming Program
Jake Kudrna has been named the new Boys and Girls Swimming Coach at Brush High School.
Kudrna is a 2008 Brush graduate. Kudrna joined Brett Spicer’s staff last season as an assistant coach. He was also an athlete of Spicer’s from 2004-2008. He was a four-year letterman and two-time team MVP. When he graduated in 2008, Kudrna held the boys record in both the 50 and 100 Free.
Spicer stepped down as swimming coach back in April after 13 years serving as head coach. He had over 70 dual meet victories in his career. He mentored many former athletes to opportunities at the collegiate level including Kudrna.
Kudrna graduated from West Virginia University in 2013 with a degree in Wildlife and Fisheries Resources. While at WVU, he was a member of the Swimming and Diving program, competing mainly in the 50 and 10 Free. During his tenure in Morgantown he was also named a Big East Academic All-Star and a Garrett Ford Academic Honor Roll Member in part to his academic excellence.
While at West Virginia, Kudrna was involved in the community, volunteering as a mentor for Boys and Girls Club of America and helped to complete a project for Habitat for Humanity.
He currently works as Naturalist for the Cleveland Metroparks.
Brush Athletic Director Mike Murphy said, “We look forward to having Jake take over as head coach, we can’t thank Brett Spicer enough for growing the program, but we are excited for this new chapter in program history.”
Joining him on staff is his brother, Josh, who was a 2011 graduate and three-year letterman and captain for the Arcs during his time on Glenlyn.
The Arcs begin the 2016-2017 season with a dual meet against Cleveland Heights on November 29th. The Arcs swim at the Beachwood Natatorium.
