Funded by a Legacy Village grant, STEM Club provides Greenview students the opportunity to improve their problem solving and team-building skills through STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) related learning activities. The group is composed of 5th and 6th grade students who were nominated by their teachers and participated in STEM Club activities during the previous school year. Under the advising of staff member
Erin Macsurak, the STEM Club meets twice each month after school in the STEM lab.
Problem solving was selected as the theme and primary focus for this year’s activities. At the club’s most recent meeting in November, students used materials such as plastic tubes, wheels and other components to construct a car. Working together as a team and applying their critical thinking skills, the students then deconstructed the car to build another type of machine or tool, such as a catapult or wheelbarrow. Overall, the students had a blast meeting the challenge using their collective creativity and problem solving skills. Way to go STEM Club!
