Giving back to the community and helping those in need is an important area of emphasis at Sunview Elementary.  The school is involved in several building-wide fundraisers each year, including Pennies for Patients, which supports the efforts of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society to help individuals, including children, in the fight against cancer.  On Friday, November 30, 2018, Sunview held an exciting kick-off assembly for the 2018 Pennies for Patients campaign which featured a fun and informative presentation by Erin Zarancec from the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Students learned about the different types of blood cells and how they are affected by cancer, as well as real-life examples of children who have benefitted from donations towards life-saving cancer research and care.  This year marks the 5th year in a row that Sunview has supported the Pennies for Patients Campaign, which will last from Monday, December 3rd through Monday, December 17th. In 2017, Sunview students and staff raised over $1,000 in donations!  Monetary support can be made online, as well as in classroom and individual collection boxes.  Students can receive individual prizes based on the amount of donations collected.  If the building-wide fundraising total meets or exceeds $750, the classroom with the highest amount of money raised will receive a delicious lunch catered by Olive Garden.  Most importantly, Sunview students and staff are energized to once again have an opportunity to be a hero and make a difference in the lives of children!
