Sunview Celebrates Walk to School Day
walk

Beautiful fall weather and strong participation by students and parents marked the 10th celebration of National Walk to School Day at Sunview Elementary on Wednesday, October 3, 2018.  The event featured a record turnout of eighty-three students and their families for what has become a highly-anticipated annual event at Sunview.  Lyndhurst Councilman Lane A. Schlessel (Ward 3) and members of the Lyndhurst Police Department participated in the walk as well.  Led by Principal Arika Taylor, the participants departed Brainard Park shortly after 8:00 AM and walked the sidewalks leading from the park to Brainard Road, before turning onto Meadow Wood Boulevard, and finishing just outside the Sunview Gym.  During the walk, students held up signs created in-school which promoted one of the key themes of the event, specifically, pedestrian safety, environmental friendliness and a healthy lifestyle.  Principal Taylor will judge the posters and select the best ones for display in the main hallway at Sunview.  Upon completion of the walk, students received a wide variety of small prizes from members of the Sunview PTA, which sponsored the event, before being dismissed to their classroom with a high-five from Principal Taylor.  Thank-you to all participants for helping to make the 2018 National Walk to School Day event a success!
