Annie Beck, a first-grade teacher at Sunview Elementary was recently featured in a News 5 Cleveland segment spotlighting an innovative program the Sunview teacher is incorporating in her classroom curriculum to help children cope with traumatic experiences.  The program is titled Tulvia Lane and features relatable stories of children who have witnessed and survived trauma in their lives. Students also complete at-home exercises in a corresponding workbook. Author Nakeshia Nickerson developed the program to help children learn effective coping skills and realize that they are not alone in experiencing difficult life circumstances.  Students in Miss Beck’s classroom read a book titled, Gammie, which centers around a child’s experience in dealing with the death of her grandmother. Since incorporating the curriculum, Miss Beck has noticed a dramatic change in her students, specifically, an increasing willingness to share about their life experiences and emotions, as well as more open communication with peers and parents.  Learn more about how this impactful program is helping Miss Beck’s students learn and grow on the website of News 5 Cleveland.
