On Tuesday, April 16, 2019, the South Euclid Lyndhurst Schools hosted its regularly scheduled Board of Education meeting at the Memorial Junior High School Media Center, to provide an opportunity to explore and celebrate the school’s new Makerspace area.  During the half hour preceding the start of the meeting, Superintendent Linda N. Reid, Board of Education members, administrators, teachers and parents had the opportunity to explore all the exciting learning opportunities provided by the Makerspace equipment.  Student volunteers were on-hand to demonstrate each state-of-the-art learning technology, which includes a vinyl printer, laser engraver, 3-D printers, embroidery machine, Green Screen Room, recording studio and Table-top CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machine.

During the Board Meeting, several Memorial staff members provided remarks to the large audience in the Media Center.  Principal Dominick Kaple shared about the entire design and planning process, specifically praising the contributions of Head Librarian Lisa Hubler and Library AV Assistant Christina Pease, as well as students Ava Dempsey, Katie Huthmacher and Ababacar Seck.  Mr. Kaple was also pleased to announce that teachers Amber Berkobein and Laura Mayher are in the process of developing a curriculum for a Digital Art 2 class, which will utilize the Makerspace area and be offered to select 8th grade students at the beginning of the 2019-2020 school year.  Head Librarian Lisa Hubler shared with those in attendance how the Makerspace area is providing students the opportunity to problem solve, innovate and collaborate through project-based learning.  The ceremony concluded with the unveiling of a commemorative plaque recognizing the students and staff who provided the vision and leadership to launch the Makerspace area.  The District would like to thank all those who attended the April 16th Board Meeting for supporting our students and the mission of the South Euclid Lyndhurst Schools.
