Greenview Participates in African-American Read-In
read

As a culminating activity for the celebration of Black History Month, Greenview staff and students participated in an African-American Read-In on Friday, March 1, 2019.  The program is a wonderful way to promote literacy, build reading stamina and allow students an opportunity to immerse themselves in reading for pleasure.  Each grade level received a book purchased by Director of Pupil Services, Melissa Thompson on behalf of the MAC Ambassadors program, and Greenview Principal, Kelly Murphy.  4th graders received The Hero Two Doors Down, a biography of Jackie Robinson written by his sister, Christine Robinson, while 5th graders received 42 Is Not Just a Number, also a Jackie Robinson biography, written by Doreen Rappaport.  Finally, 6th graders were given Elijah of Buxton, a Newberry and Coretta Scott King award winning book.  During the Read-In, students read for approximately forty-five minutes in one of three designated areas, which included the old gym, upper library and new gym.  The staff at Greenview generously donated gift cards and prizes for students who had the opportunity to demonstrate reading comprehension by correctly responding to a preselected question.  At the end of the Read-In, all students received a Certificate of Participation and a copy of their novel.  Great job Greenview!
