Two students from Charles F. Brush High School participated in a unique and new partnership that the Arcs Career and Vocational Training program (ACVT) has created with Playhouse Square. Training to become official ‘Red Coats,’ in the downtown theater district, these two students are essentially learning how to usher patrons for matinee performances. Our Brush students were paired with a mentor for their first visit, and learned interpersonal skills with guests and how to properly show them to their seats. The students had the opportunity to watch part of the featured performance that day, A Midsummer Night’s Dream. In addition to this career preparedness opportunity, these students were accompanied by Emily Lynch, the Job Training Coordinator for ACVT at Brush, who together utilized public transportation as part of the experience. Traveling to Playhouse Square by school bus, the two students and Ms. Lynch rode the RTA from the Healthline on Euclid Avenue, rode to University Circle and then picked up the 9 to ride down Mayfield back to Brush. Over the next few months, these Brush students will be traveling to Playhouse Square twice per month. This is just another example of how the SEL Schools is preparing students with 21st Century Skills and for their lives beyond our district. Congratulations to all involved!
