Sunview Students and Parents Celebrate National Walk to School Day
Approximately seventy-five Sunview Elementary students and their family members celebrated National Walk to School Day on Friday, October 6th. The large group of students and their families met before school at 8 AM at Brainard Park behind Sunview Elementary. Led by Principal Arika Taylor, students and parents refused to let the clouds and light rain dampen their spirits, as they excitedly walked the sidewalks leading from the park to Brainard Road, before turning onto Meadow Wood Boulevard, and finishing at the Sunview Gym. Members of the Lyndhurst City Police Department escorted the students and their families throughout the entire walk. Upon entering the Sunview gym, students received various prizes, including pencils and jump ropes, courtesy of Senders Pediatrics. Sponsored by the Sunview PTA, 2017 marked the ninth year of the National Walk to School Day event, which provided a fun and active way to promote three important topics: pedestrian safety, environmental friendliness and a healthy lifestyle. Students had the opportunity during school on Friday, October 6th, to create a poster that reflected one of the above topics. Principal Taylor will judge all the posters and select the best ones for display in the main hallway at Sunview. Thank you to the Sunview PTA, Lyndhurst City Police Department and Senders Pediatrics for supporting the 2017 National Walk to School Day!
