Brush's Cecil Shorts Named Assistant Football Coach of the Year for Northeast Ohio

The South Euclid Lyndhurst School District congratulates Brush Arcs Assistant Football Coach, Cecil Shorts, who was named the Assistant Coach of the Year for Northeast Ohio. He will presented the award at the Northeastern Ohio Chapter of the National Football Foundation 26th annual scholar athlete awards banquet. The event will take place on Tuesday, March 4 at LaCentre Banquet Facility in Westlake, beginning with a reception at 5:30 p.m. and a dinner to follow at 6:30 p.m.

It was an exciting year for the Brush Arcs football team, as the The Arcs clinched a state playoff berth for the first time since 2005 and won its third straight NOC Conference Championship in convincing fashion with an undefeated conference record of 5-0 and a 7-3 overall record.

The event will honor a number of local and national figures including Doug Dieken, who will be awarded the Distinguished American Award, Greg Pruitt, who will take home the Dino Lucarelli Lifetime Achievement Award. Vince Kehres (Mount Union) will receive the Lee Tressel College Coach-of-the Year awards, which will be presented by Lee’s son, Jim Tressel. Lastly, former Sun Newspaper sportswriter Pete Gaughan will be awarded the Ohio Sportswriter of the Year Award in honor of Chuck Heaton, Bill Nichols and Dick Zunt.

Congratulations Cecil on this accomplishment. This award marks the second year in a row that an Arcs football coach was honored. Last year, Head Football Coach, Josh Wells, was named Coach of the Year by the Greater Cleveland Football Coaches Association.
