Brush High School's Soundsation Show Choir Enjoys Day with Grammy Award Winning Vocalists

Miss Ballou, the new Director of Choirs at Brush High School, enjoyed taking her 20-member show choir to Tri-C’s Metro Campus for a day of singing and listening. All student groups had the chance to sing a piece for the New York Voices, a four member vocal jazz ensemble who celebrated their 25th anniversary this year. Our students performed the song, "Unwritten" by Natasha Bedingfield. Members Kim Nazarian, Lauren Kinhan, Darmon Meader and Peter Eldridge of The New York Voices spent time coaching each choir in a master class setting where the groups got to watch each other’s coachings, as well. The day also included a question and answer session with The New York Voices and an opportunity to watch them work during their sound check with professional jazz instrumentalists and the highly trained technical crew at Tri-C.

The evening ended with a full-length concert given by The New York Voices, which left our Brush students energized and inspired. This experience allowed our students not only to perform as a group but also learn a great deal, meet new friends from area schools, and work with individuals who have been teaching and performing professionally for many years and are at the top of the music business in their genre. It was a wonderful way to start off the 2013-2014 school year!
