Brush HS Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble Receive Highest Rating
Brush HS Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble Receive Highest Rating The Brush Symphonic Band and Brush Wind Ensemble received a Superior Rating of “I” for their impressive performance at the Ohio Music Education Association Large Group Adjudicated Event, which took place from March 8-9 at Mentor High School. The annual competition features high school bands from across the state of Ohio, and consists of two separate performances evaluated by judges and assigned a rating of I – V based on the level of performance. For the first portion of the event, both the Symphonic Band and the Wind Ensemble performed three prepared pieces of music before a panel of three judges. During the performance of every musical selection, the judges followed along with a musical score and provided commentary on the band’s performance into a digital recorder. At the conclusion of the first performance, the panel assigned each band a rating of I –V.

For the second part of the competition, both bands entered an assigned room where they were given a selection of music they had not previously heard or seen beforehand. Band members were provided four minutes to review the sheet music, followed by four additional minutes of instruction by the band director. After the brief time of preparation, both bands played the selection before a single judge who also assigned a rating of I – V at the conclusion of the performance. The hard work and dedication of the students since the end of December was richly rewarded, as both of the Brush bands received the highest possible overall rating of “I – Superior” from the judges! Be sure to congratulate members of the Brush Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble for their impressive performance!
