National Honor Society Leads Food Drive Efforts for Local Families in Need

The National Honor Society at Brush High School recently concluded a spirited food drive between November 7th and November 16th that ultimately benefited ten local families in the area. Gathering canned food and donations from each building and staff members, the National Honor Society accumulated enough resources to fill 50 oversized and reusable grocery bags. The food was then parceled into ten groups, one for each family, and was accompanied by a large basket of fresh produce, proudly subsidized by Brush graduates Nick and Frank Terica, who own The Sun Plum Market in Willoughby Hills. Brush graduate and current John Carroll University grad student, Aaron Agrast, helped transport the discounted produce to the school.  Cash donations were also solicited, and enough funds were raised to include a $30 gift card for each family, to Giant Eagle.

On November 19, 2012, after NHS members carefully sorted food so that each family received the same type and amount of donated goods, packages were delivered to each of the ten families by officers of the group and co-advisor, Ms. Kathryn Falkenberg.

“What makes this effort special, is that it was SEL Schools ‘through and through,’ said co-advisor Ms. Sallie Fine. “Thank you to the staff members, alumni, and current students for helping these local families in need.”
