Greenview Celebrates Anti-Bullying Month in October

As part of a yearlong Anti-Bullying Campaign, the students and staff of Greenview helped kick off Anti-Bullying Month by participating in a variety of social activities designed to give students the tools necessary to effectively prevent, recognize, and respond to bullying situations.

Information came home to parents in Wednesday Folders throughout the month of October, as parents were encouraged to talk with their children about the serious effects of bullying and how each student must do their part in making Greenview a safe and comfortable place to learn.

During the week of October 3rd and 10th, Greenview celebrated the Character Counts Words of the Month - "Respect" and "Responsibility."  Helpful hints were distributed during the rest of the month.  These helpful hints included "10 Tips for Dealing with Bullies," "Is Your Child a Bully" and "10 Ways to be an Upstander."

Other events during anti-bullying month included an anti-bullying forum that was a student led activity that centered around how children can impact a positive school environment and reduce bullying.  There was an October Guidance Lesson with the School Counselors that covered the "Cycle of Bullying and Understanding the Role of the Bystander."  Greenview students also read a daily anti-bullying message designed to reinforce prevention of bullying and signed anti-bullying contracts to pledge against bullying.
