Rowland Elementary School is Staging Ground for Church-Led Bagged Food Outreach

More than 725 bags of non-perishable food and fruit was generously prepared by a gymnasium full of volunteers.  The effort was led by members of two local churches, Mayfield Church and South Euclid United Methodist Church, to benefit families of Rowland and Adrian Elementary Schools. The food drive campaign is in its second consecutive year, and the overwhelmingly positive response from last year’s effort propelled both churches to repeat the effort once again this year. Last year, approximately 250 bags of food were prepared, and were sent home with Rowland students and their families. This year, Adrian Elementary students’ families were included in the donation campaign. Food was either purchased directly by parishioners, or donated. After school earlier this week, members of both church congregations collaborated to prepare individual bags for students. Rowland staff and other members of the district, including Superintendent Linda N. Reid, participated in the bagging process. Said one member from Mayfield Church who volunteered her time, “we are commanded to be in the world, helping others."  Food will be delivered home with each student at both elementary schools, beginning on Wednesday, December 19, 2012.
