Student Congress Completes Rewarding Holiday Family Drive

Student Congress, a Brush High School leadership organization, has again produced a successful Holiday Family Drive 2012.

Several Brush High School homerooms, the Brush Administrative Team, Food Service, Arc Tech, the Brush AV Department and MAC Diamonds came together to sponsor seventeen needy families across the district. In addition, twenty-three seniors in both South Euclid/Lyndhurst were supplied with food to help these needy seniors celebrate a happy holiday. The Holiday Family Project is orchestrated with the help of the Ohio Department of Children Services with the tremendous help of Carrie Ward, the Consortium on Aging serving South Euclid and the Lyndhurst mayor’s office.

The Student Congress Officers board a school bus and personally take food to the needy seniors of the two communities. Social workers who come to Brush to pick up the holiday items for their families are at times reduced to tears since they know the family on their caseload will indeed celebrate a wonderful Christmas.

The Brush High School Student Congress finances this endeavor through the sole proceeds of Homecoming. The Holiday Families event has been a Brush tradition for well over thirty years. Over $3,000 worth of food is supplied to the families and seniors in need. This is ordered through our Food Service managed by Kevin Needham.

Student Congress conducts many community oriented projects in South Euclid and Lyndhurst. Moreover, their presence in leadership has touched every student and student leader in the Brush community.

Student Congress would like to thank all who have contributed to the Holiday Family Project. The Student Congress Officers are Stephanie Stamatis, President, Beth Fry, Vice President, Kristen Ambrozic, Treasurer, Tori Iosue, Secretary, and Brandon McGhee, Junior Executive. The Student Congress Advisors are Jean-David Laplanche and Mary Kay Malone.

Student Congress is dedicated to making a difference in South Euclid, Lyndhurst and the Brush community.
