Adrian Students Receive Special Visit from Members of Historic Fraternity
Students in the Adrian Scholars program received a special visit from five members of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Delta Lambda Chapter, on Thursday, April 25th. Each of the active members shared with the students the importance of creating and achieving college and career goals, and how doing so helped them individually. The participating members of Alpha Phi Alpha come from a variety of professional backgrounds, and included professional football player Cliff Louis, mortician Eric Williams, college administrator Jeevon Harris, attorney Sam Smith, and physician Jemaar Graham.
Founded in 1906 by seven African-American students at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY, Alpha Phi Alpha is the first African-American Inter-Collegiate Greek-Lettered fraternity in the United States. The historic fraternity has had many prestigious and influential members throughout its history, including Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., former Supreme Court Chief Justice Thurgood Marshall, and Olympic track and field star Jesse Owens.
The Adrian Scholars and SEL Schools wish to thank all five Alpha Phi Alpha members for their visit and commitment to making a positive impact on students’ lives.
