The South Euclid-Lyndhurst Board of Education honored fourteen retirees at its June Board Meeting. Each retiree was presented with an engraved wooden musical school bell with their name and years of service. The retiree’s dedication to our students will be greatly missed as we wish them best of luck on their future endeavors.

Below are the short bios that were read about the retirees who attended the retirement recognition ceremony on Tuesday night.
EDIE BLOCK
Edie began as a Guidance Counselor at Brush High School, and is retiring as a Counselor at Greenview. Before SEL, she was a Counselor at Walsh Jesuit High School and Lake Catholic. Prior to that, Edie was a teacher in Cleveland Heights – University Heights. She earned her undergraduate degree from Kent State University in Elementary Education and graduate degree from John Carroll University in Education Counseling.
Upon retiring Edie plans to “plan the rest of her life!”
The thing she will miss most about being at SEL is being at SEL!
Edie would like to thank everyone for making her tenure at SEL the best years of my career.
BARRY HARTZ
Barry Hartz has been with the district for 25 years. Barry began as the Band Director at Brush High School, and is retiring as the Instrumental Music Teacher at Memorial, Brush, and Greenview. Before SEL, he was the Band Director at Carrollton High School in Carrollton, Ohio, which is 20 miles south of Canton. Barry earned his undergraduate degree from Bowling Green State University in Music Education and earned his graduate degree in Music Education from Morehead State University in 1987.
Upon retiring Barry plans to complete his Ph.D. in Music Education at Case Western Reserve University while teaching at Cleveland State University.
The thing he will miss most about being at SEL is “helping kids realize that they can accomplish much more than they expect.” Barry states he will “miss the daily collaboration with incredible colleagues and the warm support of parents and families.”
Barry would like to thank Kaylee Flynt, Nate Harris, Brad Leyrer, Jamie Holcomb, Andrea Walker, Tim Jarvie, Dr. Veronica Motley, Mike Patrizi, Paul Pestello, and Steve Franko, who convinced me to take a second look at coming to work here.
ELEANOR JACKSON
Eleanor Jackson has been with the district for 26 years. Eleanor began as a Speech / Language Pathologist at Adrian and Southlyn Schools, and will be retiring with us in the same capacity serving Adrian, Rowland, and Greenview. Before SEL, she was a Speech/Language Pathologist at Kenneta Clemet Center for Family Heath Care. Eleanor earned her undergraduate degree from Hampton University in Speech / Language Pathology and earned her graduate degree from Case Western Reserve University and Lake Erie College in Speech Pathology and Education, respectively.
Upon retiring Eleanor plans to “relax part time, travel, and continue working 2 – 3 days per week.”
The thing she will miss most about being at SEL is “…being part of an awesome educational team!”
Eleanor would like to thank all of her former administrators: Maleeka Bussey, Dr. Mark Woodby, Laura Jansa, Mel Wasserman, Reginald Holland, Brian Poe, Audrey Walker, Kim Monachino, Marylou Ezzo, and all teachers, secretaries, custodians, and volunteers.
BETTY MacIVER
Betty MacIver has been with the district for 37 ¾ years. Betty began as a 1stgrade teacher at Victory Park School and she is retiring as a Learning Resource Teacher at Sunview. Betty earned her undergraduate degree from Cleveland State University in Elementary Education and earned her graduate degree from Cleveland Marshall College of Law in Law.
Upon retiring Betty plans to travel, volunteer, catch up on reading, reconnect with friends, and “in general live the dream!”
The thing she will miss most about being at SEL is “the kids”!
Betty would like to thank “Lisa Treer, my Library Assistant, who has been a joy to work with and always made me look good, the teachers and administrators, especially Arika Taylor and Mark Woodby, who supported and encouraged me, and my family for sharing me with SEL and who had to take second place sometimes to my school family.”
PAT MOHRE
Pat began as a 4thgrade teacher at Victory Park School and is retiring as a Reading Teacher at Sunview. Before SEL, Pat taught preschool in Chagrin. She earned her undergraduate degree from Kent State University in Elementary Education and Special Education / dual degree.
Upon retiring Pat plans to travel, garden, read, cook, and take time to enjoy her family.
The things she will miss most about being at SEL are the students and staff at Sunview – “it’s an awesome environment for kids and teachers alike.”
Pat would like to thank “Mrs. Taylor for her calm, intelligent, and good natured style of managing Sunview School.”
DAVE PEROUT
Dave Perout has been with the district for 29 years. Dave began as a Science & Math teacher at Brush High School and will be retiring from Brush as a Science Teacher. Before SEL, he taught for six years at Riverside High School in Painesville Township. Dave earned his undergraduate degree from the College of Wooster in 1978.
Upon retiring, he plans to keep his summer job, look for something for the Fall, and attend his son’s wedding in North Dakota this summer.
The thing Dave will miss most about being at SEL is “his fellow office mates!”
He would like to thank “Everyone, especially the colleagues with whom he has taught. The cooperation, sharing of resources and strategies, and support has been phenomenal.”
