Brush Swimming and Diving Team Represents Brush Well in Sectional and District Competition

The Brush Swimming and Diving Team finished another successful year. The team had over 25 swimmers qualify for Sectionals and 75% of their swims in Sectionals were personal best times. Major highlights for the Boys Team included Lewis Marino (2:01.35) and Chris Schmidt (2:02.38) in the 200 Freestyle, placing in thirteenth and fourteenth place, respectively, in the 200 Freestyle, Myles White-Young (1:09.23), Greg LaMantia (1:09.83), and Miles Wilson (1:17.36) all turning in personal bests in the 100 Fly, and Shaun Powers, junior, leading both of his relays to top 10 finishes in the 200 Free Relay (eighth place) and 400 Free Relay (sixth place). Other boys turning in personal best times include: Donovan Hampton, Kortez Johnson, Joshua Pope, Parker Shapiro, and first year swimmers: Andrey Gavrylyuk, Brett Gordon, and Josh Lashley.

For the Girls, getting the team started was Kelly Dockery, senior diver, who obtained a personal best diving score and placed fourteenth at the Sectional meet. Headlining the swimming results was Alex Iosue who finished sixth in the 500 Free (5:28.09), which qualified her for the Northeast District Meet. Iosue also finished eighth in the 200 Freestyle. The junior girls swam well; best times were seen by Sammie Rummel, Gwen Simmons, and Valencia Winfrey. Strong swims were also turned in by sophomores Brittany Mack, Abby Bernard, Devin Frydl, Taylor Martin, Ellie Plucinsky, and Maddie Muzzio. The two freshmen girls, Grace Pierce and Shannon Frey, both saw great time improvements and made quality contributions to our team this season.

At the District meet, Alex Iosue, seeded fifteenth in the 500 Free, finished her high school career strong, and dropped 9 full seconds from her Sectional swim to finish eleventh in a deeply talented event. Her final time of 5:19.14 was by far her personal best. She is currently looking to swim in college after graduating this year.

Overall, our team worked hard and built a culture of success on which to build for the coming season.

Great Job to the Girls and Boys Swimming and Diving Team!
