Brush High School Senior Brandon McGhee Named a Finalist for Maltz Museum Essay Contest

Brush High School senior Brandon McGhee has recently been named a finalist for the Maltz Museum of Jewish Heritage Stop the Hate: Youth Speak Out essay contest, a coveted honor that demonstrates the overall leadership qualities of one of the districts most accomplished students. The Stop the Hate: Youth Speak Out essay contest is a yearly initiative that supports the mission of the Maltz Museum to build bridges of appreciation, tolerance and understanding of persons of all religions, races, cultures and ethnic backgrounds. It celebrates the values of responsible citizenship and respect for all humanity by challenging young people to consider the consequences of intolerance and hatred. Specifically, Brandon wrote about his co-founding of the C.A.R.E. student-based organization at Brush High as an extra credit assignment for his British Literature class taught by Kathryn Falkenberg. As one of the finalists, Brandon will be recognized among a field of nine others at Severance Hall on March 13, 2014.

While the SEL Schools congratulates Brandon on this accomplishment and wishes him the best later next month, the district also commends the English Department at Brush for their continued commitment and success with this annual contest. The school has been recognized twice for having the largest number of participants over the last several years.
