Superintendent Reid Visits the Cosmetology Program

Superintendent Reid had an exciting visit yesterday with the Brush Cosmetology program.  The Cosmetology Program at Brush High School is a school-based training program designed to prepare 11th & 12th grade students for entry-level cosmetology positions. Basic program instruction is done through classroom instruction, laboratory experiences in the classroom and in the field, as well as required academics, to reach a level of preparation for graduation and successfully passing the Ohio State Board of Cosmetology licensing examination.

Junior and Senior students enrolled in BHS’s Cosmetology program also participate in an important community outreach program called “Beyond the Chair” in partnership with Cleveland Clinic. “Beyond the Chair” is a “pampering” program that takes these aspiring cosmetologists beyond the classroom and into the workplace. While the program provides them with critical skill building opportunities, perhaps more importantly, it allows our students to lift the spirits of chemotherapy patients through therapeutic services, such as heated and non-heated hand and arm massages and warm paraffin hand dips for patients, their family members and patient care team members. All services are provided under the guidance and supervision of a licensed instructor.
