The Pianist of Willesden Lane

On March 9th, the Brush High School Book Club attended a performance of The Pianist of Willesden Lane at East Professional Center in Cleveland. Students read the story of Lisa Jura's journey on the Kindertransport from Vienna to London during the Holocaust and learned how music aided in her survival. Jura's daughter, Mona Golabek, co-authored the memoir titled The Children of Willesden Lane and, a concert pianist like her mother, performs the one woman play. Students read the book, participated in multiple discussions, and enjoyed the performance along with students from all over Cleveland including Brecksville, Lakewood, and CMSD. Through the generosity of Facing History and Ourselves and several local philanthropists, over 5,000 area students received a copy of the book to keep as their own as well the opportunity to see Ms. Golabek's unique performance.
