Memorial Junior High Hosts Brunch with Mayor Welo

On Monday, March 7th, the Memorial Junior High student clubs hosted a special brunch with South Euclid Mayor Georgine Welo. Students and staff enjoyed a variety of refreshments, including muffins, fruit, yogurt and juice. The program began with an impressive performance by the 8th grade chorus of “Man in The Mirror” by Michael Jackson, under the direction of Mrs. Ballou.  Student representatives from several school clubs then provided remarks on the various ways their group was helping to make a positive impact in their school and the community. The list of student speakers included the following:

Nick Anderson and Sloan Boukobza from National Junior Honor Society
Cassidy Thomas from Student Council
Jasmyne Scott from MAC Jewels
Laila White from Book Club

The list of student group accomplishments included the National Junior Honor Society raising $600 for the Cleveland Foodbank, and MAC Jewels participating in a walk from Memorial to Richmond Mall in support of Breast Cancer Awareness month. Teacher and AV Club advisor Chrissy Pease shared about the Adopt-A-Computer program which involves each AV Club student member adopting a specific school computer to ensure that it is maintained and running properly year-round.

The event concluded with inspiring remarks from Mayor Welo on the topic of leadership, specifically positive leadership principles, including hard work, perseverance, sacrifice and striving to always do the right thing. The South Euclid Lyndhurst Schools wish to thank Mayor Welo for taking the time to meet with and encourage our students to continue to pursue leadership opportunities in their school and community.
