MAC Jewels Celebrate Breast Cancer Awareness Month with Walk to Richmond Mall

In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, members of MAC (Minority Achievement Committee) Jewels participated in an after-school walk from Memorial Junior High to Richmond Mall in Richmond Heights, OH, on Thursday, October 8th. Led by faculty advisor Michelle Webster and other teachers, twenty-two members of MAC Jewels left the school building at 3:30 PM and began walking along the nearby streets towards Richmond Mall. Each student wore various pink colored shirts, jackets, and hair ribbons, while others had a pink ribbon painted on their face, as a way to raise awareness about breast cancer. Several students also carried a pink colored MAC Jewels banner.

This marks the second year that members of MAC Jewels have participated in the 1.5 mile walk to Richmond Mall. Teacher Michelle Webster started the walk in honor of her mother who passed away from breast cancer four years ago. Michelle’s sister, Tonya, was a participant in this year’s walk as well.

The SEL Schools wish to thank the members of MAC Jewels, faculty advisor Michelle Webster and other participating staff members for their continuing support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
