Rowland Students Create Gingerbread Homes as Part of Language Arts Project

Rowland Elementary School third grade students took a language arts lesson in a rather creative direction recently, as students became young architects and then realtors in a gingerbread house construction project. Houses were made from materials which included cardboard, wood, cotton balls and other items, and then were summarized in persuasive essays students wrote, to convince the Gingerbread Man that their houses were the best. Families assisted students with the project, and the Rowland PTA even sponsored an Art Night where such homes could be constructed with parents.

This project gave third graders the chance to implement the Common Core curriculum, by designing their own homes and then marketing them through persuasive writing. Students’ Gingerbread houses are on display at Rowland until December 19. Congratulations to Rowland third grade students for their creativity in this learning process.
