Google Expeditions Takes Greenview Students on Interactive Journey

On Wednesday, January 20, 2016, students at Greenview Upper Elementary had the opportunity to participate in Google Expeditions, a unique program which enables students to journey anywhere on Earth or to outer space from inside their classroom. Featuring over 180 different expeditions, the program uses a virtual reality platform to provide students a visually stunning and interactive learning experience. To begin each expedition, the students sit at or stand behind their desk, and hold the virtual reality viewers up to their eyes. Using an electronic tablet, the teacher loads the images of the specific location into the students’ viewers. Students can then look in all directions to see every aspect of their expedition. Throughout each expedition, teachers have the ability to instruct students by providing important content-area related information, as well as highlight specific points on the images for students to view.

During the course of the day, students had the opportunity to visit locations all across the globe, including the Grand Canyon, Native American reservations and the Great Wall of China. The SEL Schools would like to thank Google Expeditions and the staff at Greenview Upper Elementary for providing this exciting learning experience for our students.
