Memorial Robotics Team Participates in Solon Sectional Competition

Mr. Bell would like a shout out to go to the robotics team from Memorial Junior High School! These twelve young ladies and gentlemen have been working diligently on a First Lego League robotics challenge called Trash Trek. The First Lego League hosted a sectional tournament in Solon on 12/12 and the students performed admirably. They had three projects to present to a panel of judges. The projects were a current problem and a solution to eliminate excess waste, a core values presentation, a group process/teamwork challenge, and finally the robotics challenge. Unfortunately, they did not finish in the top six of eighteen teams to advance to regional, but their ability to think on the fly, re-program software to run the bot under pressure, and make modifications to improve in the pit was outstanding. The SEL community has something to be proud of and to look forward to. This having been our first year in the competition, there will be no doubt we will accomplish bigger and better things next year! The team was made up of twelve seventh and eight graders: Sean Pierce, Andrew Schlegel, Sloane Boukobza, Nick Anderson, Steven Hensley, Matthew Kendig, Seth Martin, Emily Drenen, Nathan Eckman, EllieFlores, and Xavier McCreary. Great Job!
