The Holiday Spirit

On a recent field trip, SEL students from Mrs. Parker and Miss McCann’s classes at Rowland and Mrs. Boughambouz and Mrs. Gonzalez’s classes at Sunview were blessed by the good deeds of others. On the field trip, the students were each given a gift card from Target to spend within the store. The students had to learn to manage their money, shop for someone other than themselves (then a little something for themselves), and wait in line to pay for their items. It was a wonderful learning experience. The Target team was so patient and accommodating. Then they all went to First Watch for lunch. Students had to order for themselves and sit appropriately while waiting for their food. As they waited, the hostess approached and told them that a customer, who wished to remain anonymous, offered to pay for lunch for all of the children. Students and staff were so touched by the kindness of a stranger. The kids went back to school and made thank you cards for both Target and their “Secret Santa”. The team at First Watch told them that the individual was a regular customer, and they would make sure the messages were delivered. What a wonderful day! Our students made us so proud by their ability to navigate the world so successfully that it inspired others to pay “pay it forward”.
