Brush High School Hosts Portrait Workshop by International Artist
Brush High School welcomed international photographer and artist Chin-Pao Chen for a portrait workshop on Thursday, May 1, 2014. The event was attended by AP photography students from Brush High School, who had the opportunity to hear a presentation by Mr. Chen regarding his work. A hands-on portrait workshop followed where students learned how to use a 4x5 large format camera, generously donated by The Cleveland Museum of Art, by taking portraits of each other.
Chin-Pao Chen’s visit was made possible through an invitation by Brush Photography Instructor Hadley K. Conner and the Cleveland Print Room, of which Conner is also an advisory board member. Cleveland Print Room is a non-profit organization which seeks to promote and educate the community about photographic arts, especially film photography through workshops, exhibitions, as well as a fully functioning darkroom. It is currently hosting Mr. Chen, a native of Taiwan, as part of the Creative Fusion Project, an international artist-in residence program sponsored by The Cleveland Foundation. Founded in 2010, the innovative program provides presentation and cultural exchange opportunities for international artists before thousands of students and residents across northeast Ohio each year.
Shari Wilkins, Director of the Cleveland Print Room, and Sally Winter from The Cleveland Foundation were also in attendance at the special portrait workshop.
