Highlights from the past week in Brush Athletics

Boys Soccer

Improved to 5-1-1 with a 4-0 win over Mentor on Thursday, the team is off to their best start in seven years. The team is being led by senior Brett Gordon, who is leading the team and the News-Herald area in scoring. They played to a hard fought 0-0 tie against Mayfield on Tuesday to go to 1-0-1 in the Western Reserve Conference.

Girls Soccer

Has been fighting the injury-bug of late and is getting back to full health, they travel to Chardon on Tuesday to continue WRC action. They fell on Tuesday to Mayfield, 4-0. The team has played in close matches all season losing three of six matches by two goals or less. The team is currently led by the area’s leading scorer, freshman Kennedy Kemp, who has 18 points on the season. The team’s top seven scorers are all underclassman and goalie Cheyenne Hoppel has over 100 saves through the first eight games. Girls Soccer will be home next week on Thursday against Shaw for senior night at 7pm.

Volleyball

Volleyball picked up their first win of the season last Saturday against John Adams, 3-0. The team is under the leadership of first-year head coach Kaitlin McCann. In the match against John Adams, Jamie Perry led the way with 16 assists and six aces, Jenna Perry contributed seven aces with four digs and freshman Jaela Carisle/Hailee Jones combined for 10 kills and four digs. Volleyball host WRC leading Riverside next Tuesday in Welser Gym, varsity plays at 6:30pm.

Boys Golf

On Wednesday, Boys Golf picked up a win over Parma. The team was led in scoring by Jorden Windham with a 46. The golf team continues to improve with each match. The team has no seniors this season. The team scored their lowest team score in two years on August 24 against Valley Forge. The lowest individual score belongs to Tyler Iacobucci who shot a 39 against Madison. Mike Medve is currently in his second season, the team is young with no seniors this season.

Girls Tennis

In the past week, the Girls Varsity tennis team put together two victories over WRC Schools (Madison, North). On Tuesday, the girls defeated Madison, 3-2, the Arcs won both doubles matches in straight sets with the final match coming down to senior Leah Fox, who won her match in straight sets to clinch the match for the Arcs. Varsity Girls Tennis host Chardon on Wednesday at the Welser Tennis Courts.

Brush-Hoover Make Fox 8

Brush and Hoover collaborated together to celebrated the life of fallen Hoover football player Zach Herrera. The pregame moment of silence was covered by FOX 8.
