Memorial Welcomes Parents and Students to Open House

The staff at Memorial Junior High welcomed over 100 parents and students to its annual Open House event on Tuesday, September 6th from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, beginning in the new gymnasium. After a brief welcome by Principal Dominick Kaple, staff members took a moment to introduce themselves to those in attendance, providing their name, the college or university they graduated from and their content area of instruction. Principal Kaple then announced the results of the canned food drive which began on Wednesday, August 31st. Memorial students donated approximately 103 canned and boxed food items in less than a week! The donated food items will be delivered to the Garfield Memorial Church Foodbank and will help to fight hunger in the local community. To reward students for their generosity and participation, Principal Kaple invited all eighth grade students in attendance to help smash a pie in his face at the center of the basketball court!

Parents and students were then dismissed to follow an abbreviated version of their child’s class schedule. During each class period, parents had an opportunity to meet their child’s teachers and obtain important information regarding the class syllabus and student expectations. The SEL Schools would like to thank all parents, teachers and staff for helping to make Memorial’s Open House a success!
