2016 Convocation Welcomes Back Teachers and Staff

The SEL schools formally welcomed teachers and staff back for the 2016-2017 school year with its annual Convocation on Monday, August 15, 2016 in the Brush Performing Arts Center. The room was filled with excitement and anticipation as teachers and staff reunited after the summer break. Several board members were also in attendance, including Board President Cassandra Jones and Stefanie Rhine. Students from the Brush High School marching band kicked-off the event with an energizing performance of several classic rock and R&B hits from the 1960’s. Superintendent Linda N. Reid followed by recognizing new staff members from each district building.

The 2016 Convocation featured a joint presentation by Superintendent Reid and Assistant Superintendent Dr. Veronica Motley during which they highlighted key accomplishments from the previous school year. The list of accomplishments included the beginning of a district-wide initiative to upgrade technology in all K-12 classrooms, expanded school and community based partnerships and increased student participation in Advanced Placement courses. Superintendent Reid and Dr. Motley also provided an overview of the various steps the district is taking to promote student learning during the 2016-2017 school year, including expanding the Excel TECC Exercise Science and Rehab program, boosting the number and usage of Chromebooks district-wide, placing a greater emphasis on non-fiction writing in the classroom and increasing academic performance scores.

The SEL Schools proudly welcome back all teachers and staff members for the 2016-2017 school year. Students begin school on Wednesday, August 17th.
