Adrian Launches New Student Breakfast Model

Breakfast is considered the most important meal of the day, especially for students. As part of a district-wide initiative, Adrian Elementary has taken steps to improve the delivery of its student breakfast model for the start of the 2016-2017 school year. The breakfast model is now centrally located in the gymnasium and served from 8:30 to 8:50 AM each school day. Students receive their breakfast at one of three assigned food distribution tables based on their grade level. Each standard breakfast meal includes fresh fruit and choice of regular, chocolate or strawberry milk. In addition, students are offered a different expanded breakfast menu option each day of the week, which includes assorted muffins, whole grain cereals, breads, Poptarts and cereal bars, as well as a hot breakfast meal served every Friday. Adrian staff members are on hand to supervise the food distribution tables and help ensure students get to their classroom on-time.

The new student breakfast model is a big improvement over the previous system which required students to eat at their desks in the classroom. A centralized location in the gymnasium not only makes cleanup more efficient, but enables staff to more accurately track which students receive breakfast, as well as devote more time to preparing meals for the following day. As a result of implementing the new model, the district will achieve noticeable cost-savings. Principal Dr. Mark Woodby noted that the new model is getting better each day and has already reached its goal of serving 165 students breakfast in twenty-minutes thanks to the teamwork and commitment of staff members. Overall, the new breakfast model at Adrian Elementary is helping to ensure that students get the fuel they need each day to learn and succeed.
