On Thursday, September 18th, Greenview Upper Elementary, Sunview Elementary and Rowland Elementary participated in the 2014 Father’s Walk. Sponsored by the Cuyahoga County Fatherhood Initiative, the annual Father’s Walk is celebrated by schools across Cuyahoga County and provides fathers and father-figures the opportunity to support their child’s education by participating in various activities. These activities include, first and foremost, walking with their child to school. Each school building’s celebration was well attended, with over one-hundred fathers and father-figures demonstrating their commitment to fatherhood by walking with their child to their respective school. Participating students who attend Greenview Upper Elementary met in the auditorium of Notre-Dame College, while Sunview and Rowland Elementary hosted students and their fathers/father-figures in their respective school’s gym.
Donuts and other refreshments were provided to students and their fathers/father-figures during the program, which included various speakers. All three school’s programs featured inspiring and uplifting remarks by male parents from the district, which encouraged all those in attendance to continue to be a positive and active presence in their child’s life. Each person in attendance was also provided helpful information which demonstrated the common characteristics of effective fathers and the important benefits it has on a child’s academic performance and overall future development. As a symbol of their dedication to being effective and involved fathers, everyone in attendance joined together to recite a Father’s Pledge, which stated their commitment to being involved in their child’s education, moral development and overall lives. The 2014 Father’s Walk was brought to a fitting conclusion with a celebratory walk, where each participant walked their child back to their school classroom. The South-Euclid Lyndhurst Schools wish to thank all of the fathers and father-figures who participated in the 2014 Father’s Walk, and for demonstrating a strong commitment to their child’s education.
